Small business grants scheme now open

Calling small and micro businesses in North Yorkshire! You can now apply for North Yorkshire Council’s Small Business Grants scheme.
Could small changes make a big difference to the way you work?
Could a little boost help you reach more customers or improve your efficiency?
This flexible grants scheme is available to increase your growth, productivity and resilience. Applicants can apply for capital grants of £1,000 to £10,000 by speaking to their local business support manager.
North Yorkshire Council hopes to hear from across the business community. They especially welcome first-time grant applicants to come forward.
Businesses also encouraged to apply include:
- Sole traders
- Start-ups (must be trading)
- Home Businesses
- Social Enterprises
- Resident Landlords
- Farms looking to diversify
- Limited companies
Please note: this scheme is only available to businesses in the North Yorkshire Council area. This does not include businesses in the City of York.

What will be funded by Small Business Grants?
- hospitality equipment
- cleaning equipment
- retail showroom improvement
- food wrapping machines
- enhanced production lines
- automated labelling systems
- bike racks
- electric carts for tours
- music festival venues
- pods, yurts and glamping accommodation
- crafting spaces and courses
- network hardware
- desktops and laptops
- e-commerce platforms
Grants will be given for the purchase of assets. This does not include running costs or leases.

How to apply for Small Business Grants
Grants of £1000
Grants of £1,000 are aimed primarily at micro businesses and do not require match funding. Applicants will need to complete a small business grant application form.
Grants over £1000 and up to a maximum of £10,000
These grants are aimed at small businesses and will require match funding of 25%. Get in touch with the SPF team who will refer to your local business support manager. They can answer any questions and provide free and impartial support throughout the application process.

Decarbonisation Fund
Interested in cutting costs and waste? North Yorkshire Council have made grants and support available to help you take action on net zero.
UK Shared Prosperity Fund
The grant forms part of North Yorkshire’s £16.9 million UK Shared Prosperity fund allocation. £5.4million from Rural England Prosperity Fund has also been allocated. In 2023/24, North Yorkshire Council has a funding pot of £450,000 for the Small Business Grant scheme.
