2 Nov – What is news? How to use the power of media to tell your story

2 Nov 2022

2 November, 10am-12pm at The Enterprise Centre, York St John University YO31 7EX

With a bit of careful thought, most businesses have a great news story to tell. However, they’re often too absorbed in their daily work to consider these – missing great opportunities to promote themselves and raise their profile through the media. This interactive session, led by professionally qualified journalist Andrew Vaux, will teach you how to use the power of the media to tell your stories to the world.

By the end of the event, you’ll have learnt:

  • the difference between news and advertising
  • what makes a great story
  • how to write an attention-grabbing headline
  • how to structure your story
  • how to build meaningful and long-lasting relationships with journalists
  • how to write your own press release.

Andrew Vaux started his career with the Telegraph & Argus, one of the country’s leading regional daily newspapers. Over the past 32 years, his work has featured in leading media titles including The Sunday Times, The Independent on Sunday, The Guardian, The Daily Star, Asian Express Newspaper and The Yorkshire Post.

This is a joint event between York St John University, the York & North Yorkshire Growth Hub, Phase One at York Science Park and Northern Editorial Services
